In a tragic incident that sent shockwaves through the Obafemi
Awolowo University (OAU) community
in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Miss Salako
Treasure, a 100-level student, was discovered dead on Thursday. Her lifeless
body was found in an uncompleted building located in the Lagere area of
Ile-Ife. The circumstances surrounding her death remained shrouded in mystery
at the time of this report.
Beside the lifeless body of Miss Salako, a bottle of snipper
was found, hinting at the possibility of suicide. However, the scene was also
littered with broken bottles and other dangerous objects, suggesting that there
might have been more to the story. The conflicting evidence made it difficult
to determine the exact cause of her demise.
Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution’s Public Relations
Officer, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident. He emphasized the
university’s distress that a young student could resort to such a drastic
action. Mr. Olarewaju pleaded with Nigerians to show compassion and support for
one another, highlighting the need for individuals to reach out for help when
facing emotional and psychological challenges.
He further urged everyone to remember that life has its share
of ups and downs, emphasizing that no matter how overwhelming the emotional,
psychological, or academic frustrations may be, taking one’s own life should
never be seen as a solution. He extended condolences to the bereaved family,
particularly the parents who had lost a bright and promising young lady.
The university authorities promptly took action, removing the
remains of Miss Salako from the scene, and involving the police in the
investigation. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, expressed his deep
concern over the tragic loss of a first-year student. He acknowledged that
although the incident occurred outside the campus premises, it was a
devastating blow to the university community.
Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the state police
command, confirmed that the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department (SCIID) had initiated an investigation into the circumstances
surrounding the student’s death. The cause of her demise was yet to be determined
at the time of the report, and the dedicated team of detectives was determined
to uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking incident.
The entire OAU community was left grieving the loss of a
young life filled with potential. As the investigation progressed, they hoped
to find answers and bring closure to the tragic case.
