New
developments have surfaced indicating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on
the verge of
announcing Senator George Akume as the new Secretary to the
Government of the Federation (SGF). This decision by President Tinubu is seen
as a move to appease the North Central zone in preparation for the upcoming
race for leadership in the 10th National Assembly.
According
to reliable sources cited by Western Post, Tinubu has chosen Senator Akume, a
former Governor of Benue State and a long-time ally, for this prestigious
position. The President is expected to make a formal announcement regarding
Senator Akume’s appointment, along with other personal aides, sometime between
Friday and Monday of the following week.
It
has been reported by Naija News that the North Central zone and members of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) are expressing their dissatisfaction with being
excluded from consideration for the position of Speaker of the House of
Representatives. This dissatisfaction has likely played a role in President
Tinubu’s decision to select Senator Akume as SGF, as a way of addressing the
concerns of the North Central zone and garnering support for his leadership in
the upcoming National Assembly race.
Since
assuming office as the 16th President of Nigeria on Monday, expectations have
been running high among political figures and Nigerians alike regarding the
appointment of the President’s personal aides. As a result, numerous
speculations have been circulating on both social and mainstream media
platforms.
Yesterday,
there were reports suggesting that President Tinubu had appointed the current
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, as the Chief
of Staff to the President. However, Gbajabiamila swiftly denied these rumors,
urging Nigerians to trust in the system and allow it to function properly.
With
these recent developments, all eyes are now focused on President Tinubu’s
impending official announcement, which is expected to shed light on the future
leadership landscape and further shape the political dynamics of Nigeria.
