Katsina, October 19, 2023 – The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retired), delivered a passionate address on Thursday to a freshly trained cohort of 2,500 personnel, charging them to stand firm against the relentless influence of drug barons and cartels.
During the passing-out parade of the newly minted narcotic agents and assistants in Katsina, General Marwa emphasized the critical importance of their mission, underlining that they must remain steadfast and incorruptible, as their actions directly impact the safety and well-being of their families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
Represented at the event by his Special Adviser, Colonel Yakubu Bako (retired), the NDLEA Chief announced the agency’s launch of an ‘Offensive Action’ strategy, designed to put traffickers and barons on the defensive. Simultaneously, they are promoting a ‘War Against Drug Abuse’ (WADA), a long-term social advocacy campaign aimed at preventing drug abuse in society.
Marwa imparted a powerful message to the new officers, stating, “In rejecting corruption and upholding our commitment, we are not only defending the well-being of our nation but also preserving the moral fabric of our society and ensuring that justice prevails.”
Addressing the wider society, he declared, “We all owe a duty to this country to rid it of the drug menace and safeguard its corporate existence. We must bear in mind that it is our society, children, youths, and indeed, our culture and future, that are under attack and in danger of being corrupted by the illicit drug culture.”
He urged unity in the fight against this menacing problem, saying, “Hence, we need to rise in unison against this dreaded monster. Your support to NDLEA, especially through the supply of useful intelligence, will go a long way in stemming the tide of abuse and trafficking of illicit drugs in our country.”
