Canada has announced plans to investigate the explosion that resulted in a fire incident at its High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Monday. This decision was accompanied by the issuance of a travel advisory cautioning against nonessential travel to Nigeria, aligning with similar advisories from the United States and the United Kingdom.
According to reports from Vanguard, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria experienced a fire outbreak, tragically resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others.
Following the incident, the Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, issued a concise statement on X, expressing condolences for the victims of the explosion. “We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria. The fire is out, and we are working to shed light on what caused this situation. I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 2 people killed in this tragedy,” Joly stated.
Moreover, the Canada High Commission in Nigeria announced via social media that it had “temporarily suspended operations until further notice.” The decision was attributed to “the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and the significant risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks, and kidnappings.”
