
The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, has touched down in San Francisco, marking the commencement of a pivotal summit with U.S. President Joe Biden. This significant meeting is part of the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Meeting, spanning from November 14 to November 17.
Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., Xie Feng, confirmed Xi’s arrival on Tuesday afternoon local time in a statement issued on Wednesday. The Chinese President received a warm welcome from numerous overseas Chinese, including students studying abroad, who lined the routes from the airport, waving both Chinese and American flags to express their support.
Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, accompanied Xi Jinping on the same flight, emphasizing the importance of the delegation.
Upon arrival at San Francisco International Airport, Xi Jinping received a cordial reception from senior U.S. officials, including U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and California Governor Gavin Newsom, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the meeting.
The focus of the highly anticipated summit between Xi Jinping and President Biden, leaders of the world’s two largest economies, centers on the urgent need for collaborative efforts to mend bilateral relations. The statement highlighted the shared responsibility of both nations in navigating global challenges and uncertainties.
