In a groundbreaking development, President Bola Tinubu has given the nod for the disbursement of a whopping N12 billion to address outstanding payments for the Super Eagles and various national sports teams in Nigeria.
The official announcement was made through a statement released on the X handle of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Center. The allocated funds are designated to cover a spectrum of financial obligations, including the settlement of senior national team coach salaries spanning a duration of 15 months. Additionally, the funds will cater to the payment of allowances and fulfill commitments owed to both the senior national teams, female squads, and the Under-20 national team.
The statement released by the media center declared, “President @officialABAT has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s National teams of various sports, which includes Super Eagles and others. The payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.”
This significant financial injection comes at a crucial juncture, coinciding with the Super Eagles of Nigeria gearing up for their participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to commence later this month. The timely approval is expected to provide much-needed financial relief and boost morale as the national teams prepare for their respective competitions.
