The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has given the green light to all 12 governorship aspirants as they gear up for the party’s primary election slated for February 17. These aspirants are contending for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the forthcoming September 2024 governorship poll.
The announcement of the clearance of the 12 aspirants was made following the conclusion of the screening process organized by the APC. The screening exercise was held over two days, from Thursday, February 8 to Friday, February 9, 2024.
Although the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, were notably absent at the oath-taking event held on Thursday at the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja, the screening process proceeded smoothly.
The National Gubernatorial Aspirants Screening Committee, chaired by Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, oversaw the screening exercise. The committee, comprising seven members, diligently assessed each aspirant’s eligibility and suitability for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the APC National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Arugungu, it was confirmed that all 12 aspirants had been cleared to participate in the forthcoming primary election.
With the clearance of these aspirants, the stage is set for a keenly contested primary election as the APC in Edo State prepares to select its flagbearer for the highly anticipated governorship election later in the year.
