FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has announced the appointment of Olusegun Alebiosu as its Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, effective April 2024. Alebiosu takes on this pivotal role succeeding his previous position as the Executive Director, Chief Risk Officer, and Executive Compliance Officer, which he held since January 2022.
Alebiosu boasts an impressive career spanning over 28 years in the banking and financial services sector. His vast expertise covers credit risk management, financial planning and control, corporate and commercial banking, as well as specialized areas like agriculture financing, oil and gas, transportation, and project financing.
His professional journey began in 1991 with Oceanic Bank Plc. (now EcoBank Plc.), and since then, Alebiosu has held key positions in several esteemed financial institutions. Before joining FirstBank in 2016, he served as Chief Risk Officer at Coronation Merchant Bank Limited, Chief Credit Risk Officer at the African Development Bank Group, and Group Head of Credit Policy & Deputy Chief Credit Risk Officer at United Bank for Africa Plc.
In addition to his extensive professional experience, Alebiosu holds impressive academic qualifications. He is an alumnus of the Harvard School of Government and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. He also earned a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and another Master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Alebiosu is a distinguished member of professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA), Nigeria Institute of Management (ANIM), and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He is recognized for his unwavering commitment to excellence and ethical standards in the banking industry.
Outside his professional commitments, Alebiosu is passionate about golf and adventure. He is happily married and a devoted parent.
With his new role at FirstBank of Nigeria Limited, Alebiosu is expected to drive growth and innovation, further solidifying the bank’s position as a leading financial institution in Nigeria and across the globe.
