A daring act by the family of a bride-to-be and fellow passengers led to the death of a terrorist and the seizure of two AK-47 rifles in Zamfara State.
According to PRNigeria, the incident occurred when the bride-to-be’s family and other travellers came under attack by bandits on the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway. The family was on their way to Kano to purchase wedding attire and materials when the armed bandits ambushed them.
An eyewitness recounted the chilling encounter, stating that the travellers heard gunshots as they approached the Fangal Tama checkpoint. Two armed bandits on motorcycles then blocked the road, forcing vehicles to stop.
The bandits, with guns drawn, ordered the bride-to-be, her parents, and two other relatives out of their vehicle. The terrified family was then coerced into following the bandits into a nearby forest.
Feeling the imminent danger of abduction, the passengers decided to act. They unitedly launched an attack on one of the bandits, resulting in his immediate death. The second bandit managed to escape, leaving behind his AK-47 rifle.
The brave group retrieved both rifles and returned them to military personnel at a nearby checkpoint. However, amidst the heroic act, one passenger suffered a heart attack due to the trauma and tragically passed away in the hospital later.
The swift and courageous response from the passengers highlights the growing resilience of communities against the banditry plaguing parts of Zamfara State.
