ABUJA— Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 21 Edo State governorship election, has pledged a campaign focused on addressing key issues affecting the state. He assured voters that his administration would offer a stark contrast to the current Governor Godwin Obaseki’s regime.
In a statement from his Media Office, Okpebholo emphasized that his administration would prioritize quality healthcare, affordable education, infrastructure development, security, food security, social welfare programs, housing, ICT, and agriculture. These key areas will be at the forefront of his campaign promises to the people of Edo State.
Contrasting himself with other candidates lacking a proven track record, Okpebholo highlighted his experience, vowing to make Edo State a new economic powerhouse in Nigeria. He also credited his and Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s intervention for the return of contractors to federal road projects previously abandoned by past administrations.
“With the ongoing federal government interventions across the state, we will bring even more development when the APC takes over and collaborates with the central government,” Okpebholo said.
As the campaigns kick off, Okpebholo urged his supporters to remain focused and avoid provocation. He promised to address the concerns of the people directly and ensure that no segment of the state, especially traditional institutions, feels marginalized under his administration.
He stated, “We will not lie or deceive the people. Our word will be our bond, and we will give them reasons to give us a chance to serve them.”
Okpebholo also took aim at his political opponents, dismissing them as inexperienced “baby politicians” relying on eloquence rather than substance.
Highlighting the importance of traditional institutions, Okpebholo criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its alleged disrespect towards Edo’s traditional leaders. He pledged to hold the Oba of Benin and other Royal Fathers in high esteem.
