Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, embarked on a touching visit to Kaduna State on Friday, where he extended his support and solidarity to wounded and injured Nigerian soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.
As reported by PUNCH Online, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, received a warm welcome from Governor Uba Sani upon their arrival in Kaduna. The governor presented the Duke with traditional Hausa attire and cherished photo frames capturing moments with his late mother, Princess Diana, and his wife.
The royal couple’s visit to Nigeria is part of their efforts to promote the Invictus Games, an initiative founded by Prince Harry to aid in the rehabilitation of wounded and sick service members and veterans. This includes Nigerian soldiers who have been involved in a prolonged conflict against Islamic extremists spanning 14 years.
During the visit, Prince Harry toured the hospital facilities alongside the Chief Medical Director, Col. NS Onuchukwu. The official website of the Duke of Sussex highlighted the significance of the hospital’s facilities, including a cutting-edge physiotherapy gym and a state-of-the-art prosthetics lab donated by Germany.
Interacting with approximately 50 courageous soldiers across two wards, Prince Harry listened to their stories of service and sacrifice, offering words of encouragement and wishing them a speedy recovery. The report noted that the Duke recognized two soldiers from last year’s Invictus Games, their smiles serving as a testament to the hope and resilience fostered by the initiative.
Moreover, Prince Harry took the opportunity to personally congratulate Princess Owowoh on her graduation from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, further cementing the bond between the royal family and the Nigerian military community.
Prince Harry’s visit to the Kaduna military hospital not only uplifted the spirits of wounded soldiers but also underscored the importance of supporting those who have made sacrifices in service to their country.
