Abuja, Nigeria — Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced that Emirates Airlines has provided a confirmed date for resuming flight operations to Nigeria. Keyamo shared this information on Wednesday through a post on his X page, following a meeting with the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, at the UAE Embassy in Abuja.
“Yesterday, I paid a working visit to the Ambassador of the UAE to Nigeria, His Excellency, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, at the UAE Embassy in Abuja,” Keyamo wrote. “He handed me a correspondence from Emirates Airline indicating a definite date for their resumption of flights to Nigeria. That date will be formally announced by Emirates Airlines in a matter of days.”
Emirates Airlines had halted flight operations to Nigeria in October 2022, citing difficulties in repatriating funds trapped in the country. The airline’s suspension was attributed to the issue of approximately $85 million in revenue being trapped in Nigeria, leading to operational challenges.
The announcement of the resumption date marks a significant development in the restoration of international flight services between Nigeria and the UAE, promising to enhance travel and economic relations between the two nations. The exact date for the resumption of flights will be disclosed by Emirates Airlines soon.
