Leicester City has appointed former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper as their new manager on a three-year contract. According to a statement from Sky Sports’ website today, Cooper replaces Enzo Maresca, who left earlier this summer to join Chelsea. The appointment follows a comprehensive search and evaluation process, during which the club considered several candidates, including Graham Potter.
Cooper, who had been unemployed since being dismissed by Nottingham Forest last December, takes over at the King Power Stadium. His tenure at Forest ended when the club was languishing in 17th place in the Premier League after a run of just one win in 13 games. Despite this, Cooper, 44, is credited with guiding Forest back to the top flight for the first time in 23 years and keeping them there.
In a statement on Leicester’s official website, Cooper expressed his enthusiasm for the new role: “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s first-team manager. This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”
The Sky Sports statement also highlighted the challenges Cooper will face at Leicester. The Foxes are dealing with a possible points deduction and may need to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Despite these hurdles, Cooper’s appointment marks a new chapter for Leicester City as they aim to achieve success under his leadership.
