Silicon Valley, USA – Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to contribute approximately $45 million each month to a new fund dedicated to supporting Donald Trump’s bid for the U.S. presidency. The Wall Street Journal reported this significant financial commitment on Monday.
The donations will be directed to a political group named America PAC, which aims to enhance voter registration, early voting, and mail-in ballot efforts in key swing states leading up to the November general election. This information comes from sources familiar with the matter, as cited by the Journal.
Musk, the founder of Tesla and the world’s richest individual with an estimated net worth of $250 billion, is not alone in this venture. The fund has attracted other notable backers, including Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, former U.S. ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft, and cryptocurrency investors Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
The tech mogul formally endorsed Trump’s candidacy on Saturday, following the former president’s survival of a shooting incident at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Musk took to the social media platform X, which he acquired in 2022, to express his support: “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
Over the course of the 2024 U.S. election, Musk has shown increasing alignment with Trump. In March, they met in person during a donor breakfast hosted at the Florida residence of billionaire Nelson Peltz.
Despite U.S. campaign finance laws capping individual donations at $3,300 per person, political mega donors like Musk can contribute substantially more through political action committees (PACs), which operate under different regulations.
Trump, who had previously criticized mail-in and absentee voting, has since adjusted his stance after recognizing the strategic advantage it provided to Democratic voters in past elections.
With Musk’s substantial financial backing, America PAC is poised to play a crucial role in bolstering Trump’s campaign efforts as the election approaches.
