On Saturday, Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign reported a significant breach of its internal communications, attributing the hack to “foreign sources” and implying that Iran may be responsible. This announcement follows the receipt of campaign materials by Politico, which were sent by an anonymous source.
The compromised documents included sensitive internal communications and a dossier related to J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate. The Trump campaign responded by accusing these foreign entities of attempting to interfere with the upcoming election and disrupt the democratic process.
Campaign spokesman Steven Cheung referenced a recent report by Microsoft, which highlighted that Iranian hackers had sent a spear-phishing email in June targeting a high-ranking official in a presidential campaign. This incident draws parallels to the 2016 Democratic National Committee hack, where Russian hackers exposed internal party communications, affecting candidate Hillary Clinton.
The Trump campaign’s accusation underscores the ongoing concerns about foreign interference in U.S. elections, especially as the 2024 election approaches.
