Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 125,928 out of 184,438 newly printed Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been collected. This represents a significant 68.3% collection rate within a five-day period, from August 22 to August 26.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, shared the update in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja. He highlighted that this collection rate is the highest recorded by INEC since the introduction of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process for off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.
“The collection process, carried out across all 192 wards in Edo State, was part of a coordinated effort by INEC to ensure voters have access to their PVCs ahead of the September 21 governorship election,” Olumekun stated.
Olumekun also emphasized that the commission has completed the collection process at the ward level. To streamline the process, INEC meticulously organized the PVCs by Polling Units, Wards, and Local Government Areas (LGAs). Additionally, a collection register detailing the voters whose cards were ready for pickup was created and uploaded to INEC’s website.
A comprehensive breakdown of PVC collection by LGA has been made available on INEC’s website and social media platforms for public access. Voters who have yet to collect their PVCs are urged to visit INEC offices in their respective LGAs from Wednesday, August 30, until September 8.
Olumekun reiterated INEC’s policy against proxy collection of PVCs and assured that information regarding the locations of INEC offices in the 18 LGAs of Edo State is readily accessible on the commission’s website.
