Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has unapologetically affirmed his commitment to working with President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. Speaking on Saturday during the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike addressed the backlash he has faced since his appointment, stating that he is content with his role and has no regrets.
As the only opposition member in Tinubu’s cabinet, Wike’s appointment has sparked widespread discussions, with many interpreting it as a reward for his significant contributions to Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State during the 2023 presidential election. However, the former Rivers State Governor has remained steadfast in his decision, dismissing critics with a bold statement.
“We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regrets about it, and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug a transformer,” Wike declared during his speech at the congress.
Wike’s comments underscore his confidence in his political decisions and his resolve to support the Tinubu administration, despite the controversies surrounding his involvement in an APC-led government while still a member of the PDP. His stance has further solidified his reputation as a political heavyweight, unafraid to challenge traditional party lines and public opinion.
The minister’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions from political observers and the public, with some praising his boldness and others criticizing his alignment with the ruling party. Nonetheless, Wike’s position in Tinubu’s government remains firm, as he continues to play a key role in the administration’s plans for the Federal Capital Territory.
