The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Godgift Bai, for allegedly circulating a viral nude video of a young girl on social media. The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Mohammed, on Friday.
According to the statement, Bai, who hails from Ogbolomabiri in Nembe Local Government Area, was apprehended in Yenagoa, the state capital, on September 3, 2024, following a thorough investigation conducted by the Cyber Crime Unit of the police force.
The statement read, “The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the viral nude video of a young girl circulating on various social media platforms. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Alonyenu Idu, operatives of the Cyber Crime Unit carried out a detailed investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect, Godgift Bai.”
The police condemned the act of cyberstalking, especially when it targets vulnerable individuals, and vowed to curb such offenses in the state. “The command urges the public to refrain from online exploitation of individuals,” Mohammed said, adding that the suspect will face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
This arrest highlights the Bayelsa Police Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle cybercrime and protect victims of digital exploitation.
