Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has assured that his state has the capacity to quell any political tensions, responding to recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Wike had warned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, particularly those supporting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, against meddling in his state’s affairs.
During a PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Bauchi yesterday, Governor Mohammed addressed Wike’s remarks, stating that no one could destabilize Bauchi. He emphasized that Bauchi has the “water” to extinguish any “fire” Wike might threaten to ignite.
“We are united; nobody can set Bauchi ablaze,” Mohammed said. “Even my friend Wike, who made those comments, is only upset. It’s nothing personal.”
He added, “Leadership is leadership, and friendship is friendship. This visit by the NWC reassures us that there is hope for Nigeria and that the PDP remains a stabilizing force for peace and stability in both our party and our country.”
Mohammed further stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law and putting personal interests aside to strengthen the party. He pointed out that crises exist in all parties but can be addressed through dialogue and unity.
“Our party, the PDP, has a strong pedigree. Most of Nigeria’s development was achieved during the PDP’s time in power. Since the PDP left, little has been done,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Wike met behind closed doors with the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, in a bid to resolve the ongoing crisis within the party, especially in Rivers State. The BoT had previously requested a meeting with Wike after a similar engagement with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. It is unclear if any resolutions were reached during this latest meeting.
