Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to alleviate the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, acknowledging that the administration is working hard but still needs to do more. Despite the current hardship, Fayose remains hopeful that conditions will improve soon.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Fayose admitted that Nigerians are going through tough times but believes that the Tinubu administration is committed to addressing the economic challenges. “It’s not been too easy, that is the truth for Nigerians, but I think that this government is giving their best. However, their best still needs to be upped,” Fayose remarked.
He also recognized that the economic issues plaguing the country are the result of long-term damage that cannot be fixed overnight, noting that people are eager for immediate relief. “If you say they need time, people will begin to question what time do they need? But I know that with a little more time, things could get better,” he added.
At a time when many Nigerians are dealing with rising living costs and economic instability, Fayose’s comments come as both an acknowledgment of the nation’s struggle and a call for greater urgency in finding solutions.
On state governance, Fayose, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), praised Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his performance. Despite their political differences, Fayose commended Oyebanji’s leadership, stating, “As of today, I am a member of the PDP, the governor there is a member of the APC, but the meeting point is that I am a leader in Ekiti. Governor Oyebanji has done exceedingly well.”
He expressed confidence that Oyebanji stands a strong chance of securing a second term in 2026, adding, “I don’t know the miracle that will defeat him except something changes between now and that election.”
Fayose also noted that Oyebanji has successfully united leaders in the state across political divides, further strengthening his position for re-election.
