Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was detained overnight in a female cell at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos State, following his arrest by the Nigeria Immigration Service. Bobrisky was apprehended at the Seme border while attempting to leave the country.
A source familiar with the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that Bobrisky was held in the female section of the FCID facility due to concerns about his controversial public persona. The source explained that his placement in a female cell was decided based on security and safety reasons, as the facility did not house any other female inmates at the time of his detention.
“Bobrisky was brought to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 p.m. on Monday. Immigration officials arrested him at the Seme Border and handed him over for safekeeping. He was detained overnight and placed in a separate cell near the female section,” the source said.
The source further elaborated that placing Bobrisky among male detainees could have posed security risks, given his lifestyle and public perception. “There was a lot of caution in handling the case. If you put him among males, anything could happen, and you cannot put him among females either. So, they isolated him in a cell around the female area where there were no other inmates.”
Bobrisky’s detention was confirmed by Mayegun Aminat, spokesperson for the FCID in Lagos. During a conversation with Punch on Tuesday, Aminat stated, “He is detained at the FCID, Alagbon. He is with us, and we are working to obtain a remand order to keep him in custody today.”
The arrest followed allegations that Bobrisky was attempting to evade law enforcement by fleeing the country. According to sources, his decision to exit through the Seme border suggested he was aware of being under scrutiny by security agencies. “From what we gathered, he was trying to escape the country. It appears he may have been aware that he was on a security blacklist,” the source added.
As of now, authorities are awaiting further directives regarding the next steps in the investigation. Bobrisky’s arrest and detention come amidst ongoing investigations into his activities, with security agencies closely monitoring the case.
