The Recording Academy unveiled the nominations on Friday, highlighting a strong Nigerian lineup, with superstars Burna Boy and Asake returning to the category alongside rising talents.
Burna Boy, a six-time Grammy nominee, received a nod for his chart-topping track Higher, while Asake earned recognition for his collaboration with Wizkid on MMS. Both artists are repeat nominees, with Burna Boy holding the distinction of being the most-nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history since his first nomination in 2020 and subsequent win in 2021 for Twice as Tall.
Davido secured his second Grammy nomination for his contribution to Chris Brown’s Sensational, sharing the spotlight with Nigerian newcomer Lojay, who also earned his first Grammy nod for his work on the same track. Yemi Alade and Tems are among other prominent Nigerian nominees, with Alade receiving her first solo nomination for Tomorrow and Tems earning recognition for her single Love Me Jeje in the Best African Music Performance category.
Tems is particularly notable this year as the only African artist with three nominations across Grammy global music categories. Her debut album Born in the Wild is up for Best Global Music Album, while her single Burning is in the running for Best R&B Song, further solidifying her status as an international force.
Young star Rema joins the Best Global Music Album category with his sophomore project HEIS, alongside Jordan Adetunji, whose viral track Kelani has garnered him a Grammy nomination. Adetunji also earned recognition in the Best Reggae Album category for his track Bloody Civilian on Bob Marley’s One Love soundtrack.
On the global front, Beyoncé leads this year’s nominations with 11 nods, spanning categories that include Record, Song, and Album of the Year for her genre-blending album Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé’s dominance is matched by nominations in pop, rap, country, and Americana categories. Other top contenders include Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone with seven nominations each, while Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter each earned six.
The 67th Grammy Awards will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, bringing together global music talents to celebrate excellence and innovation across the industry.
