Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Fred Itua as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) in his new administration, marking the first official appointment ahead of the anticipated power handover from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration. The announcement, made on Monday by Okpebholo’s media team in Abuja, comes just days before the governor-elect’s inauguration set for Tuesday.
Itua, a seasoned journalist and media strategist, brings a wealth of experience from his prior roles with Leadership and The Sun newspapers, where he covered critical beats including the National Assembly, migration, health, anti-corruption, and environmental issues. Known for his in-depth reporting and keen understanding of the Nigerian media landscape, Itua is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the governor’s communications and public outreach strategies.
Educationally, Itua is well-prepared for the position. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, a Master’s in Media Arts from the University of Abuja, and is nearing completion of his PhD in Development Communication at Veritas University, Abuja. This academic background, combined with his extensive reporting experience, positions him well to support Okpebholo’s administration in communicating effectively with the public and navigating complex media landscapes.
Known for his commitment to continuous learning and cross-cultural collaboration, Itua has been recognized for his ability to innovate and lead in diverse, multicultural environments, a quality that could benefit Okpebholo’s administration as it seeks to implement new policies and maintain a transparent dialogue with the citizens of Edo State.
This appointment signals Okpebholo’s intention to prioritize clear, effective communication with the people of Edo State, as well as his commitment to a team that combines experience with forward-thinking leadership.
