In a grand ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Monday Okpebholo was sworn in as the new governor of Edo State, officially succeeding Governor Godwin Obaseki after his completion of two terms. Okpebholo’s deputy, Idahosa, was also sworn in alongside him. The event was conducted by Edo State Chief Justice Daniel Okungbowa, who administered the oaths of office as both leaders pledged to uphold the Nigerian constitution and prioritize the welfare of Edo State citizens.

Prominent figures attended the historic occasion, including Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum. Notably present was Philip Shaibu, Edo’s reinstated deputy governor, along with several governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the nation.
Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and outlined his commitment to advancing Edo’s development, ensuring good governance, and working closely with all levels of government to address the pressing needs of the state. His speech highlighted a vision focused on economic growth, infrastructure improvement, and social services enhancement for Edo’s citizens.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new administration under Okpebholo’s leadership, as he and Deputy Governor Idahosa prepare to tackle the challenges ahead and implement their agenda for progress and prosperity in Edo State.
