The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has indefinitely suspended the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engineer Shehu Ahmad. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, Engineer Ahmad has been directed to hand over his responsibilities to the FCDA’s Director of Engineering Services. While the reason for the suspension was not disclosed, the statement underscored that the directive is part of ongoing administrative adjustments under the minister’s leadership.
The statement reads:
“Engineer Shehu Ahmad, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), has been suspended indefinitely with immediate effect. He has been directed to hand over to the Director of Engineering Services in the FCDA to ensure continuity in the Authority’s operations.”
This development comes amidst a series of reforms and restructuring initiatives led by Minister Wike since assuming office. The minister has previously emphasized his commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and improved efficiency within the FCT Administration.
Observers speculate that the move could be related to broader efforts to address administrative lapses within the FCDA, although no official confirmation has been provided. Stakeholders within the FCT have expressed varying reactions, with some welcoming the decision as a step towards better governance, while others await further clarification on the circumstances surrounding the suspension.
The Federal Capital Development Authority plays a critical role in the planning and development of Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja. The position of Executive Secretary is pivotal to ensuring that the authority operates efficiently and aligns with the developmental vision of the federal government.
As of now, no timeline has been given for the conclusion of the investigation or for the possible reinstatement of Engineer Ahmad. Minister Wike is expected to address the matter in due course as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the FCT.
