UK Tribunal Orders Pastor Tobi Adegboyega’s Deportation Amid New Revelations

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the United Kingdom Immigration Tribunal’s decision to approve the deportation of Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation). The 44-year-old pastor, known for his controversial lifestyle and influence within UK youth circles, has faced legal challenges regarding his immigration status since overstaying his visitor’s visa in 2005.

Adegboyega, who had sought to remain in the UK on human rights grounds, had his appeal denied by both the Home Office and the first-tier tribunal. He subsequently escalated the matter to the upper tribunal in August 2022, citing his marriage to a British citizen and his community work as reasons to remain in the country.

Claims of Community Impact Rejected

In his appeal, Adegboyega presented arguments that his church had initiated intervention programs to rescue troubled youths from gang activities and crime. He claimed to have established safe houses across London, operated food banks serving over 136,000 meals, and led numerous community outreach initiatives supported by prominent UK figures, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Metropolitan Police.

However, the tribunal dismissed these claims as “hyperbolic” and unsupported by substantial evidence. Judges Bruce and Rastogi ruled that Adegboyega had “grossly inflated” his contributions, stating there was no corroboration from the organizations and officials he mentioned.

“There was nothing before us from the Metropolitan Police, Downing Street, the Mayor of London, or the Home Office, all institutions which the appellant claims to have enthusiastically endorsed his work,” the tribunal noted.

Flamboyant Lifestyle Under Scrutiny

Known for his designer clothing, luxury cars, and high-profile connections, Adegboyega’s lifestyle has long drawn criticism. During the proceedings, he defended his extravagant image, stating it was necessary to inspire the young people he sought to help. He also claimed that his wife, a British citizen earning £100,000 annually, funded his lifestyle and that he had never taken money from the church.

The tribunal found these assertions implausible, highlighting inconsistencies in his testimony, including claims of a packed daily schedule that judges deemed unrealistic.

Legal Challenges and Controversies

Adegboyega has been the subject of multiple allegations of financial misconduct. A 2022 BBC documentary accused him of defrauding church members under the guise of funding community projects, allegations he denied and which did not result in criminal charges. That same year, investigations by the UK Charity Commission revealed financial impropriety amounting to over £1.87 million, leading to the closure of SPAC Nation.

Despite these controversies, Adegboyega has maintained his innocence and continues to command a following. Responding to the tribunal’s ruling on Instagram, he dismissed the deportation as a minor challenge, insisting that his influence and success in the UK remain undiminished.

“I’m right here at home, no cause for alarm. I succeeded in this country despite all challenges, and I’m in the league of people you look up to,” he said.

Future Legal Options

Adegboyega still has the option to appeal the upper tribunal’s ruling to the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. According to the UK Home Office, he must file the appeal within 28 days of receiving permission from the tribunal.

Meanwhile, the pastor remains defiant, claiming his businesses have flourished in the wake of the deportation news. In a social media post, he revealed that his companies had raised over £1 million within 24 hours of the ruling, describing the development as a blessing in disguise.

While his legal battles continue, Adegboyega’s story highlights the intersection of immigration law, community work, and the scrutiny of high-profile religious leaders in the UK.
