KANO – The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, predicting that his administration will be voted out of office in the 2027 general elections if his government’s current economic policies remain unchanged.
Addressing journalists in Kano, Dungurawa criticized Tinubu’s policies as harsh and anti-people, stating that Nigerians are growing increasingly dissatisfied with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He asserted that the NNPP is gaining momentum nationwide and would achieve sweeping victories across the 36 states of the federation, including the presidential seat, in 2027.
“With these harsh anti-masses policies, and your stance on them, just prepare for defeat in the next general elections,” Dungurawa said. “You either change them or we Nigerians together will change you.”
NNPP Positions Itself as a Major Opposition Force
Dungurawa pointed out that since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, his government has implemented several policies that have worsened the economic hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.
“From the podium on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu started reeling out anti-masses policies, and as if we offended him, he kept slamming such policies on us up till today,” Dungurawa said.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the NNPP and its leader, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to turn things around for Nigerians.
“Therefore, with these problems and many more created by the APC government, it is just a matter of time, but we are going to ensure that Tinubu is out in 2027 and Kwankwaso, a true democrat, comes in,” he said.
Nationwide Expansion and Grassroots Mobilization
The NNPP chieftain revealed that his party has established offices and structures in all states and local governments across Nigeria. He described this expansion as a clear indication of the party’s readiness to contest and win at both state and federal levels in the next general elections.
Dungurawa highlighted the success of the NNPP in Kano, where Governor Abba Yusuf has been praised for his efforts in infrastructure development and social empowerment.
“You are all living witnesses that we are lucky to have a God-fearing governor who has restructured Kano in terms of infrastructure, empowerment, and human development. Kano can now compete with any modern city globally, especially with the state-of-the-art facilities made available in both metropolitan and rural areas,” he said.
Concerns Over Alleged Plans for One-Party State
However, Dungurawa raised concerns over alleged moves by the Federal Government to turn Nigeria into a one-party state by suppressing opposition parties.
“Our only challenge is the APC government’s alleged plan to make Nigeria a one-party state,” he stated.
He urged the Federal Government to introduce policies that would alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, warning that the current economic hardship could lead to social unrest.
Dungurawa concluded by reiterating the NNPP’s commitment to championing the cause of the masses, emphasizing that his party would continue to push for reforms that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
“The people are waiting patiently for 2027, and when the time comes, they will make their voices heard,” he added.
