Concerned about the continued captivity of schoolchildren and teachers abducted from Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, scores of women traditional worshippers on Friday staged a spiritual procession through major shrines in Abeokuta, Ogun State, seeking divine intervention for their safe release.
Led by Yeye Olokun Agbaye and Olori of Orile-Ilawo Kingdom, Dr. Omolara Fashola-MacGregor, the women visited notable sacred sites, including Olumo Rock, Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala and Sodeke Shrine, where they offered prayers and performed traditional rites.
Fashola-MacGregor said the exercise was aimed at invoking ancestral protection and seeking the safe return of the abducted victims amid rising insecurity across the country.
She called for collective efforts by government, security agencies, religious bodies and traditional institutions to tackle insecurity, stressing that traditional institutions remain key stakeholders in promoting peace and communal harmony.
The procession ended at the Itoku Shrine, where participants offered final prayers for the victims’ release, peace in the country and an end to kidnapping and other violent crimes. They expressed hope that their spiritual efforts would complement ongoing security operations.
