The 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos witnessed a star-studded celebration of talent and creativity, with veteran Nollywood luminaries and rising stars alike gracing the event.
Amidst the glitz and glamour, iconic actress Idowu Philips, fondly known as Iya Rainbow, and esteemed actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly referred to as RMD, were honored with the esteemed Industry Merit Awards for their outstanding contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
Adding to the evening’s excitement, Kehinde Bankole clinched the Best Actress category for her remarkable performance in the movie “Adire,” while Wale Ojo claimed the coveted title of Best Actor for his compelling portrayal in “Breath of Life.”
Hosted by the charismatic Ik Osakioduwa, the AMVCA celebrated the artistry and storytelling prowess of actors and filmmakers from across the African continent.
Expressing her gratitude upon receiving the award, Iya Rainbow attributed her success to divine grace and thanked her family, fans, and colleagues for their unwavering support throughout her illustrious career.
Similarly, RMD expressed his surprise and privilege at being honored, dedicating the award to the entire acting community and expressing gratitude for the enriching collaborations he has experienced.
In a heartfelt moment, Kehinde Bankole expressed her joy at receiving another AMVCA accolade, reflecting on her journey since her first win in 2015 and acknowledging the significance of the recognition.
Meanwhile, Wale Ojo, in a jubilant acceptance speech, praised the power of faith and thanked his family and fans for their unwavering support on his artistic journey.
Young and talented actress Genoveva Umeh also emerged victorious, winning the Best Supporting Actress category for her stellar performance in “Breath of Life.”
In addition to individual triumphs, “Breath of Life” garnered multiple accolades, including Best Director for BB Sasore and the prestigious Overall Best Film award, showcasing the film’s remarkable impact and cinematic excellence.
Other notable winners of the evening included Demola Adedoyin for Best Supporting Actor and Chimezie Imo for the Trailblazer Award, among others, further underscoring the depth of talent and creativity within the Nigerian film industry.
The 10th anniversary of the AMVCA proved to be a night of celebration and recognition, honoring the past, present, and future of African cinema while setting the stage for continued innovation and excellence in storytelling.
