National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, says he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, throughout their marriage, claiming he has never had an intimate relationship with another woman.
Aregbesola made the statement while addressing supporters at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, the former Osun State governor said his decision to remain faithful was motivated by his fear of God and a personal commitment to uphold marital fidelity.
He explained that he had also regarded his faithfulness as part of a personal spiritual test while seeking divine intervention in his political aspirations.
“Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” Aregbesola said.
He further said, “I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house.”
Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 and currently occupies the position of national secretary of the ADC.
The opposition party has stepped up its campaign across Osun ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election, seeking to defeat the incumbent administration.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election, while Bola Oyebamiji is contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Najeem Folasayo Salaam is the ADC candidate.
With the election approaching, the major parties have intensified their campaigns and mobilisation efforts across the state as they seek to win the governorship contest.
