American Twitch star and internet personality Kai Cenat has arrived in Lagos for his second visit to Nigeria, renewing public interest in his pledged multimillion-dollar school project.
Cenat touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday, where he was greeted with a live band performance, quickly sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms.
The visit comes almost a year after his first trip to the country, during which he announced plans to invest $5 million in building a school for children from Makoko, the waterfront community often referred to as Lagos’ floating slum.
However, the project has faced setbacks due to land ownership issues and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Given the area’s unique floating structures, organisers later relocated the proposed school site to Yaba, a more accessible part of Lagos. Cenat has insisted that despite the change in location, children from Makoko will benefit from free education once the facility is completed.
During his Mafiathon 3 livestream, Cenat revealed that more than $1 million has already been raised for the initiative. He also said the project would be executed in phases, emphasising the need for long-term sustainability over rushed construction.
His return has reignited excitement among fans in Nigeria, with many hoping his presence signals renewed momentum. Still, some social media users remain cautious, urging clearer timelines and tangible progress on the ground.
Cenat’s visit also comes amid growing interest from international streamers in Nigeria. Just weeks ago, fellow American content creator IShowSpeed toured Lagos, drawing large crowds and generating viral moments through interactions with fans and local creators.
The consecutive visits have underscored Nigeria’s rising influence in global digital culture, while Cenat’s latest trip has once again placed the spotlight on whether his ambitious education project will finally move forward.
