Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Premier League champions Liverpool in a deal reportedly worth up to €75 million ($86.5 million). The Bundesliga giants confirmed the move on Wednesday, announcing that Diaz has agreed to a contract that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised the acquisition, describing Diaz as one of the Premier League’s most formidable attackers.
“In Luis Diaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left wingers in the Premier League,” Dreesen said. “He brings real player character from Liverpool to FC Bayern — he’s won silverware with every one of his clubs to date.”
Diaz, 28, joins the German champions after a trophy-laden spell at Anfield, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. Speaking after his unveiling, the Colombian international expressed excitement about joining Bayern.
“It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern. They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character,” Diaz said. “My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work for every day as a team.”
Diaz was instrumental in Liverpool’s success last season, making 50 appearances and scoring 17 goals across all competitions under manager Arne Slot, as the Reds clinched their 20th English league title. His absence from Liverpool’s recent 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong had fueled speculation of his impending departure.
The signing also provides Bayern with an immediate replacement for Germany international Jamal Musiala, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the Club World Cup.
With Diaz now officially in Munich, Bayern are hoping his pace, creativity, and winning mentality will bolster their quest for domestic and European glory in the upcoming season.
