Nigerian social media personality Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has filed a N1 billion lawsuit against internet activist and influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM), over allegations of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The suit follows VDM’s release of a voice recording, which he claimed was Bobrisky admitting to bribing EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.
In response to the accusation, Bobrisky vehemently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the voice recording shared by VDM was not authentic. According to Bobrisky, the audio was artificially generated using advanced AI technology to fabricate false claims against him.
Through a post on her social media account, Bobrisky shared a letter from her legal team detailing the lawsuit, which seeks N1 billion in damages for defamation. The letter further demands that VDM issue both a written and video apology within 24 hours of receiving the notice.
Bobrisky’s legal action highlights growing concerns over the misuse of AI-generated content, particularly deepfake technology, in creating fake recordings to discredit public figures. The case is expected to spark further debate about the ethical implications of AI in spreading misinformation.
As of now, VeryDarkMan has not issued a formal response to the lawsuit or the demands made by Bobrisky’s legal team. The matter is likely to escalate if VDM fails to comply with the requested apology, as Bobrisky’s legal representatives have indicated their intent to pursue the matter in court.
