Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory
(FCT), has granted approval
for the dismantling of slum areas in Garki, Jabi,
and 28 other localities. These regions had been surveyed earlier by the Federal
Capital Development Authority before the current administration.
Approximately 6,000 structures, which have been marked for
demolition, are slated for removal to eliminate shanties and unlawful edifices
from the territory. The FCTA disclosed that this action will impact 30 distinct
zones throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
Earlier this week, Wike expressed a commitment to restore the
FCT’s master plan. He asserted that all illicit structures would be razed,
underscoring his administration’s determination to put an end to land
speculation.
Wike remarked, “We shall reclaim our land and allocate
it to those with developmental intentions, conditioned upon an agreement to
undertake development within a stipulated timeframe.”
However, the Director of the FCTA’s Department of Development
Control, Muktar Galadima, indicated that a fresh survey would be conducted. He
stated, “We plan to undertake a new survey, as the previous one was
conducted in February 2022.”
