Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has formally announced his entry into partisan politics with his decision to join the Accord Party, aligning with his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The award-winning musician made the disclosure on Tuesday through his verified X handle, revealing plans to travel to Osogbo on Wednesday to collect his Accord Party membership card at the party’s state secretariat, popularly known as Imole House.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card at Imole House, Osogbo, tomorrow,” Davido wrote, tagging Governor Adeleke in the post.
Davido’s move follows closely on the heels of his uncle’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, a decision announced earlier this month as preparations intensify for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Governor Adeleke formally unveiled his new political platform on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of Accord Party national and state leaders. He attributed his defection to what he described as a lingering leadership crisis within the PDP at the national level.
The governor explained that after extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders, he officially joined the Accord Party on November 6 to pursue his re-election bid.
Davido had earlier reacted subtly to his uncle’s political move by reposting the defection announcement on social media with the caption “Jeje…”, a response that sparked widespread reactions among fans and political observers.
The singer’s open declaration is expected to further draw public attention to the Accord Party in Osun State, especially among young voters and supporters of the globally renowned music star.
