Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has been inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body responsible for organizing the prestigious GRAMMY Awards.
With this new role, Davido will join a global network of music professionals who directly shape the outcome of the 2026 GRAMMYs through the nominations and final voting process.
The Recording Academy confirmed his membership in a video post shared on Instagram on Tuesday, spotlighting Davido alongside other newly admitted members. The caption read:
“Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication. That’s why Recording Academy members including #Davido, #ravynlenae, #offsetyrn, #jessiereyez, #zacbrownband, #anneakikomeyers, #miles.minnick, #mayaelizabethmusic, #damiensneed, #damarismusica, and #stewart_copeland are sharing why your participation matters.”
Davido, who secured three GRAMMY nominations in 2024 with his album Timeless, described the milestone as both humbling and empowering.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said.
The Recording Academy has in recent years expanded its membership drive to reflect a more diverse global representation, opening its ranks to more African and international voices. Davido’s inclusion is seen as a significant step for Afrobeats, which continues to gain ground on the world stage.
Voting for the 2026 GRAMMY Awards is set to begin October 3, with members urged to review the ballot, listen carefully, and cast their votes early.
