Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has expressed growing hesitation about pursuing a career in politics, signaling a shift from his earlier ambitions to enter the political arena.
The award-winning artist made the revelation during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he reflected on his long-standing interest in partisan politics. According to him, his outlook has evolved after observing the experiences of fellow entertainers who ventured into politics but struggled to achieve meaningful success.
Davido explained that the transition from entertainment to politics is more complex than he once believed, noting that public perception and expectations can pose significant challenges. He added that the years of effort spent building his brand, reputation, and loyal fan base could be at risk if he makes the move into a space where outcomes are uncertain.
“Before, I wanted to go into politics but now I see it differently,” he said, emphasizing that the track record of celebrities in politics has not been particularly encouraging.
The singer also pointed out that politics requires a distinct level of commitment and expertise, suggesting it may be better suited to career politicians.
“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician—it’s their business,” he remarked.
His comments highlight the growing caution among public figures considering political careers, especially in light of the challenges associated with balancing fame, public expectations, and governance.
