Edo State Governor, Monday Okpeholo, has appointed Ambassador Dr. Osarodion Osagie as Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters in a move aimed at strengthening ties between the state and its citizens living abroad.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was confirmed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and dated January 26, 2026.
Dr. Osagie, who is based in the United States, is the founder and president of the Godsent Foundation and is widely known for his long-standing advocacy for Edo people in the diaspora. Over the years, he has spearheaded several initiatives focused on community development, youth empowerment and cross-border collaboration, working to channel diaspora resources and expertise back into Nigeria.
According to the state government, the appointment reflects Governor Okpeholo’s broader strategy to harness the skills, networks and investments of Edo indigenes abroad to support economic growth and social development within the state.
Officials described the move as part of ongoing efforts to institutionalise diaspora engagement and create structured platforms through which Edo citizens overseas can contribute meaningfully to governance and development.
Speaking on the development, sources close to the administration said Dr. Osagie’s new role will include coordinating diaspora relations, promoting investment opportunities, and facilitating partnerships between Edo State and international stakeholders.
The governor’s decision has been welcomed by members of the Edo diaspora community, who see the appointment as a positive step toward deeper collaboration and inclusive governance.
The development is expected to usher in a renewed phase of engagement between Edo State and its global community, as the administration seeks to tap into diaspora-driven innovation, funding and expertise to advance its development agenda.
