In a remarkable turn of events, former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s recent Supreme Court triumph as a testament to the principles of fairness and justice in Nigeria’s legal system. The Supreme Court’s dismissal of the cases brought forward by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential poll, was viewed by Fayemi as a significant reaffirmation of the President’s electoral win.
In a congratulatory message issued on Friday and signed by the head of Fayemi’s media office, Ahmad Sajoh, the former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum emphasized the confidence that Nigerians have placed in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and in President Tinubu’s leadership capabilities. He noted that while celebrating this victory, it is essential to avoid any excessive triumphalism.
Fayemi stressed the significance of an inclusive government, urging President Tinubu to reach out to his political competitors and foster an atmosphere of unity. He argued that in a democratic setting, one party’s success should not be seen as a defeat for others but as an opportunity to collaborate for the greater good of the nation. Fayemi called upon the appellants to join hands with the President in the vital task of governing Nigeria and to refrain from causing distractions. “All hands must be on deck at this moment,” he emphasized.
“As we move forward, it is essential that we prioritize the development, security, and prosperity of Nigeria above all else,” Fayemi urged. He encouraged the President to use this victory as an opportunity to mend divisions within the country and to build a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria that benefits all its citizens.
