A fire has destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira at Eda Plaza, a building materials market opposite Chida Hotel in Jabi, Abuja.
The fire reportedly started around 3am on Sunday. The Federal Fire Service said it received a distress call at 2:46am and deployed personnel from its Wuse, Interior Ministry and Garki stations, alongside the FCT Fire Service.
National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Deputy Controller of Fire Paul Abraham, said the blaze was brought under control at 10:14am. He added that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause.
An eyewitness said one shop and a packing store belonging to his brother-in-law were completely destroyed, with roofing materials worth more than N20 million reportedly lost.
He said some of the materials had been restocked the previous night.
The eyewitness, however, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident.
