“I Messed Up” — 2Baba Regrets Comment, Begs Natasha and Family for Forgiveness

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has issued a public apology to his wife, Natasha Idibia, their children, and his fans after sparking controversy over a comment he made suggesting that it is “nearly impossible” for men to remain sexually faithful to one woman.

The Afro-pop legend made the now-viral statement during an appearance on the 234 Mzansi podcast hosted by Nigerian media personality Nedu and his crew. In the discussion, 2Baba implied that even men who genuinely love their partners might struggle with sexual fidelity — a claim that ignited a firestorm of criticism across social media platforms, with many accusing the singer of reinforcing damaging stereotypes about male infidelity.

Responding to the backlash, 2Baba took to Instagram on Wednesday to express regret and take responsibility for the pain caused by his words. In an emotionally charged video and accompanying message, he admitted that his comments were inappropriate and hurtful to those closest to him.

“I know I messed up with what I said. I know I’m going to pay dearly for it,” 2Baba confessed. “I have hurt so many people—my fans, people who hold me in high esteem, and millions who look up to me. This is not me. I’m terribly sorry.”

Directing his deepest apology to his wife Natasha, whom he described as “amazing, wonderful, and smart,” 2Baba acknowledged the emotional toll his actions have had on his family. “I’m so sorry to my kids as well,” he said. “They don’t deserve the kind of things I’ve put them through.”

He further admitted that his words fell far short of the expectations placed on a public figure of his stature: “I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where people call me a legend. But that talk I gave—there was nothing legendary about it. It was foolish.”

The African Queen crooner emphasized that while his intention might have been to have a lighthearted conversation, the magnitude of the public’s reaction made him realize how much his voice matters. “It was something I thought was just cruise,” he said. “But the response made me see the amount of love and respect people have for me—and how that one stupid statement canceled everything.”

In closing, 2Baba said he hoped his music would continue to speak for him and reminded fans that everyone makes mistakes. “People who know me know that’s not who I am. My music speaks for me. I’m human, and I own up to this.”

The apology has since sparked further conversations online, with fans and critics divided over whether his remorse was enough to mend the damage. Still, many commended him for taking accountability.
