In the midst of the escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Israel has reached out to the United States, requesting $10 billion in emergency aid, as reported by The New York Times. The conflict, which has seen a surge in violence and hostilities in recent weeks, has prompted this urgent appeal for assistance.
According to The New York Times, the White House is actively working on preparing an assistance package for Israel in response to this request. This package is also expected to include aid for Ukraine, funding to reinforce the U.S.-Mexico border, and support for Taiwan. The news of this assistance package surfaced late on Monday night, indicating the U.S. government’s commitment to addressing multiple international concerns.
On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that the U.S. government was evaluating Israel’s requests for additional military aid, specifically to support its operations in the Gaza Strip.
To further underscore the seriousness of the situation, White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby announced on Tuesday that U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Israel on October 18. During this visit, President Biden is expected to receive an update from Israeli officials regarding their strategy in dealing with Hamas in Gaza. This update will likely encompass the status of their ongoing military operations in the region.
Last week, a U.S. official informed Sputnik that the U.S. government had not yet made a final decision regarding whether to include assistance for Ukraine and Taiwan in a supplemental funding request. This request is being prepared for submission to Congress to secure additional aid for Israel.
U.S. Army Secretary Christine Wormuth has also stressed the need for additional support from Congress to enable the U.S. military to provide security assistance to both Ukraine and Israel simultaneously.
The current crisis began on October 7 when the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, provoking retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip. The conflict has taken a heavy toll, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives and injuries on both sides.
As the situation continues to evolve, the international community closely watches the developments in the region and the response of the United States to Israel’s appeal for aid.
