Fire broke out at Kada Cinema, Studio 4, located within Marina Resorts in Calabar, the Cross River state capital, causing chaos on Saturday night. Contrary to widespread rumors on social media, only one studio was affected, not the entire facility.
According to a statement released by Mr. Ojoi Ekpenyong, the Managing Director of Cross River Tourism Bureau (CRTB), the fire, sparked by an electrical surge, was confined to Studio 4 and did not spread to other areas of the cinema complex.
“We wish to clarify that Kada Cinemas Calabar has not been completely burnt down,” Ekpenyong stated. “The fire incident was contained in Studio 4 where the flames broke out and did not impact other areas.”
He reassured the public that other sections of the cinema, including the VIP areas and Studios 1, 2, and 3, remained unaffected and fully operational. Additionally, businesses within the complex, such as the Bistro and ticketing areas, are functioning normally.
Once cleaning operations are completed, the cinema is expected to reopen to movie lovers and fun-seekers within the week. Ekpenyong urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media about the extent of the damage.
“We remain committed to providing the best entertainment and relaxation services,” Ekpenyong emphasized. “We commend the EPZ firefighters for their swift response and intervention.”
