Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been plunged into mourning following the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, the Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), marking the fifth loss of a female council official in just two months.
Mrs. Akintola, who also served as Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Council Managers act as the administrative heads of the state’s 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs, serving as accounting officers and heads of administration.
The Forum of Council Managers confirmed her passing in a statement released Tuesday:
“With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, this afternoon, Monday, September 29, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”
Funeral arrangements have been set according to Islamic rites. The Janazah prayer will be held at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after the Zuhr prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, at 2:00 p.m.
The council staff have been visibly affected by the loss, gathering in quiet groups to reflect on the passing of their colleague.
Mrs. Akintola’s death comes amid a troubling spate of fatalities among female local government officials in Lagos since the inauguration of the current council administration on July 27, 2025. The others include:
- Mrs. Oluwakemi Rufai, Councillor for Ward C, Ibeju Lekki Local Government, who died on August 13, 2025, less than two weeks after her inauguration.
- Mrs. Zainab Shotayo, Councillor for Ward C, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, who passed away on August 18, 2025.
- Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA, who died on September 20, 2025.
- Mrs. Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, Councillor for Ward F, Somolu Local Government, who passed on September 21, 2025.
Reacting to the latest death, Lagos State APC Spokesman Seye Oladejo described the incident as “another sad development” and extended condolences on behalf of the party.
“APC received with deep shock and sadness the news of the passing of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, the Council Manager of Coker Aguda LCDA, on Monday, September 29, 2025,” Oladejo said.
“Her death, coming at a time when the state is still mourning the loss of other distinguished female local government officials, is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the vacuum left behind in public service.
“Mrs. Akintola was a committed administrator, a diligent public servant, and a dependable support in grassroots governance. Her contributions to the development of her council area will be sorely missed. This is a great loss to her family, Coker Aguda LCDA, and the Lagos State local government system at large.”
The string of deaths has raised concerns across the state’s political and administrative circles, as citizens and colleagues remember the late officials’ dedication to local governance and community development.
