Neymar, the renowned Brazilian
football legend, is poised to join the ranks of football’s
elite players who
are making their way from Europe to a Saudi Arabian club.
The adept 31-year-old Brazilian
winger has given his nod to a move to Al Hilal, a prominent team in the Saudi
Pro League, following the agreement reached by his current club, Paris
Saint-Germain.
It’s worth recalling that Neymar,
who still has two years remaining on his contract with PSG, made waves when he
transferred to the French Ligue 1 champions from FC Barcelona back in 2017, in
a groundbreaking deal valued at €222 million.
The previous season was marked by
challenges for Neymar, prompting fervent calls from the club’s supporters for
his departure. Consequently, PSG made it abundantly clear that the Brazilian
talent was deemed surplus to their requirements for the upcoming season.
Initial reports indicated that
Neymar had a preference for returning to FC Barcelona. However, complications
stemming from the club’s financial situation thwarted this possibility.
Furthermore, it was rumored that Barca’s coach, Xavi, was not enthusiastic
about having Neymar as part of his team.
Despite Chelsea’s reported
interest in the winger, his financial demands ultimately aligned more fittingly
with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Curiously, Al Hilal, a team
eagerly seeking a football superstar, managed to maneuver and secure the deal,
convincing all parties involved to proceed.
At this juncture, the agreement
has been reached, and Neymar’s six-year tenure in Paris is on the verge of
concluding in a matter of days.
Well-regarded Italian transfer
specialist, Fabrizio Romano, shared on Twitter, “Al Hilal is gearing up to
present the formal documents for Neymar Jr’s deal, slated for Monday
verification. The player has already endorsed the move, a two-year contract is
in the works, and legal experts are on standby. Al Hilal has even scheduled
medical assessments and is awaiting the final green light from Neymar’s
camp.”
Neymar is anticipated to garner a
staggering €160 million per season upon sealing the deal, positioning him as
the third highest-earning player globally, trailing behind Cristiano Ronaldo of
Al Nassr and Karim Benzema of Al-Ittihad.
