The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced the temporary removal of songs by Burna Boy from DJs’ playlists nationwide after an altercation involving the artist and DJ Tunez at a Lagos event.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday during Obi’s House, a well-known weekly Afrobeats gathering in Lagos. Witnesses say a disagreement between the two escalated into a physical confrontation before being quickly contained by bystanders at the venue.
Shortly after the clash, DJ Tunez took to social media platform X to express his frustration, accusing Burna Boy of striking him from behind. The posts, which included strong language, were later deleted.
In response, the NDJ released an official statement on Instagram emphasizing its commitment to fairness, unity, and respect within the DJ community. The association reiterated that all DJs deserve equal treatment and dignity, regardless of background, and condemned any form of discrimination or disrespect.
“As an organization, we stand firmly on the principle that all DJs are equal,” the statement read in part, while also calling for tolerance and mutual respect across the entertainment industry.
The NDJ further confirmed that Burna Boy’s music would be removed from its members’ playlists pending the outcome of a formal investigation into the incident.
“We urge DJs across Nigeria to remain professional and respectful toward artists and colleagues at all events,” the association added.
The exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, although speculation on social media points to underlying industry tensions. As of the time of this report, Burna Boy has not issued any public statement regarding the incident.
