In a major breakthrough, Special Forces operating under the command of Hakorin Damisa IV have successfully dismantled a notorious gun manufacturing syndicate that had been contributing to the ongoing crisis in Kaduna and its neighboring Plateau States. The operation resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, combat gear, and ammunition in the town of Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The operation, which concluded on Friday, was the culmination of a week-long intelligence effort. Captain Oya James, the Media and Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), announced the success of the operation. He revealed that the critical breakthrough came with the capture of a wanted gunrunner, Napoleon John, who had been on OPSH’s wanted list for some time.
Napoleon John, upon interrogation, admitted his involvement in the illegal arms trade. This confession led the Special Forces to a clandestine factory where an assortment of firearms was being produced and distributed by another individual identified as Monday Dunia. Shockingly, Dunia confessed to having operated in this illegal business for over five years, directly contributing to the violent conflicts in Kaduna and Plateau States.
Captain James detailed the findings from the operation, stating, “A thorough search of the factory led to the recovery of 22 different weapons, including seven pistols, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two military-grade AK-47 rifles, and nine revolvers. Others included one submachine gun, rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, machine tools, and a gas cylinder.”
The Special Forces did not stop there. Between Thursday night and the early hours of Friday, they conducted a raid on another hideout in Adua 1 village in Kafanchan. This second operation resulted in the capture of two additional AK-47 rifles, two revolver rifles, live rounds of 9mm and 7.62mm ammunitions, six daggers, one hacker axe, and several empty cases of 7.62mm special rounds. Additionally, various incriminating items such as two mobile phones, one fragmental jacket, two police uniforms, one military camouflage trousers, one ammunition magazine carrier, one pistol holster, one military-grade camel pouch, and one police combat helmet were confiscated.
Commander of Operation Safe Haven emphasized the commitment to bringing all members of the syndicate to justice, warning sponsors and perpetrators of criminality to immediately abandon their illegal activities and seek lawful means of livelihood.
This successful operation represents a significant blow to the illicit arms trade network that has been contributing to the instability in Kaduna and Plateau States, bringing renewed hope for peace and security in the region.
