The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they say is battling stage-four cancer.
Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, calling on Nigerians, well-wishers, hospitals and medical professionals with expertise in cancer treatment to help the 66-year-old actor.
In a video posted on Instagram, Lima said her father’s condition had deteriorated significantly and claimed that some hospitals were no longer willing to continue his treatment.
Fighting back tears, she appealed to anyone with access to medical professionals or healthcare facilities willing to take on the actor’s case to come forward.
“I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer, and it’s really, really bad. And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance,” she said.
Lima said the family only became aware of the seriousness of Ogogo’s condition about three weeks ago, explaining that his physical appearance had initially given little indication of the severity of the illness.
She stressed that the family was not seeking financial donations but was primarily looking for medical assistance that could give their father another chance at treatment.
“If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money,” she said.
In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father’s cancer was at stage four and said the hospital treating him had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.
She appealed to hospitals, doctors and other healthcare professionals who may be able to offer treatment, saying the family was willing to explore available options.
Kira also acknowledged Senator Yayi for what she described as substantial financial support toward her father’s treatment.
The actress’s daughter became emotional as she spoke about her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him in such severe pain.
She further disclosed that Ogogo had expressed fears about dying.
“He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said.
The family has urged anyone who can provide medical assistance or connect them with specialists capable of treating Ogogo to contact either Lima or Kira.
Taiwo Hassan is one of the most recognisable actors in the Yoruba film industry. With a career spanning more than four decades, he has featured in more than 300 films and earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s prominent Yoruba-language actors.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Ogogo’s management nor the family had issued a formal statement detailing the specific type of cancer, the hospital where he is receiving treatment or other medical information concerning his diagnosis.
The daughters’ appeals, however, have sparked concern among fans and members of the Nigerian entertainment community as the family continues its search for medical professionals and facilities willing and able to continue the veteran actor’s treatment.
