Youths from Onicha-Ugbo, located in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, staged a protest following the gruesome killing of Mr. Ifeanyi Michael Isibor, an innocent young farmer, allegedly by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Taking to the streets in large numbers, the youths carried placards as they marched along the Asaba/Benin Express Way and Onicha-Ugbo/Abuja Expressway, demanding a thorough investigation into the killing of the young farmer.
During the protest, the youths addressed the Divisional Police Officer of Issele-Uku, who arrived to ease tensions. They emphasized that the slain young man was one of the most prominent and dedicated farmers in the entire area, recounting how he was shot and left in a pool of blood on his farmland.
The police assured the community that they had initiated an investigation into the matter, seeking to unravel the circumstances surrounding the farmer’s death.
Comrade Francis Osedume, a former Special Assistant to ex-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on student affairs, urged the police to ensure that justice prevails, emphasizing the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
Meanwhile, Sir Chukwudi Izegbu, a community leader and former Senior Special Assistant on Local Content Policy to ex-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, paid tribute to the late farmer, describing him as a driven and industrious young man with promising prospects in farming.
Expressing deep sadness over the manner of Isibor’s death, Izegbu called for continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for the tragic incident are apprehended and brought to justice.
In his message to the Onicha-Ugbo youths, Izegbu commended their peaceful protest, highlighting the importance of democratic expression and solidarity in seeking justice for the deceased farmer. He expressed pride in their courage and determination to seek accountability for the loss suffered by their community.
