The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has pledged N100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to support the Iru Ekun Security Network established by Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, as efforts intensify to strengthen community security across the South-West.
The donation was announced after Sunday Igboho unveiled the security outfit in Osogbo, Osun State, and disclosed plans to organise a regional security summit for traditional rulers in the South-West.
According to Igboho, the summit, expected to be hosted by the Ooni in Ile-Ife, will bring together monarchs from across the region to discuss strategies for improving security, promoting unity and protecting the collective interests of Yorubaland.
He described the monarch’s financial and logistical support as a significant boost to the security network’s operations, saying it demonstrated the Ooni’s commitment to community-based security initiatives.
Igboho said the Iru Ekun Security Network would work alongside the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to combat criminal activities within the confines of the law.
He added that the initiative was aimed at addressing insecurity affecting rural communities, including attacks on farmers, kidnappings and other violent crimes, while assuring residents that the organisation would maintain a zero-tolerance stance against criminality.
The activist also revealed that the security outfit had continued to receive support from prominent Nigerians, including judges, technocrats and other stakeholders who shared its vision of creating a safer society.
Speaking during the meeting at his palace, the Ooni commended Igboho for establishing the security network, describing the protection of lives and property as a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences.
The monarch urged traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals, business executives and Yoruba indigenes across the world to support the Iru Ekun Security Network in the interest of lasting peace and security throughout the South-West.
